Are the zoomies normal and why does my dog get them?

Kilo the Pug is generally quite calm, but every once in a while he’ll get an unexpected burst of energy. As he sprints at breakneck speed through the house, his little black ears are close to his head. He can sprint at such a high speed that it always amazes me. He seems to enjoy the run in an unbridled manner, and then he collapses in a happy heap after his run.

Frenetic random activity periods (FRAPS), or zoomies, are common.

Initial concerns were that he might have lost his mind or hurt himself. This behavior, according to his vet and other experts that I asked, is normal. Frenetic Random Activity Periods are also called it.

It is an easy way for dogs and puppies to relax and burn energy. Kilo will get the “zoomies”, after a bath, a walk (and poop), and a game of tug with his dad.

Other pugs have been seen running around and chasing each other at puggy meet-ups.

Although I don’t believe that this is true with Kilo due to the time they occur, Zoomies may occur when a Pug or puppy isn’t getting enough stimulation.

Regular exercise is essential for all dogs and puppies.

Post-Bath Zoomies

Kilo doesn’t like getting wet. He seems to be zooming around because he is happy that his bath is done.

Post-Walk Zoomies

After a walk and poop, Kilo will often come in and grab a toy to zoomie for a while. He seems happy with himself, and he races around happily before settling down on the couch. It looks like a celebration.

Post-Game Zoomies

My husband Kilo enjoys playing tug-and-tickle with Kilo. He taps my husband with his paw on the sofa and can play for quite some time. He sometimes gets so excited that he zooms around the house while playing. It is to get rid of the excess energy from the competition.

Social Zoomies

Pugs are a social breed. They seem to like each other, except for Kilo, who prefers his plush friends. Many pugs will race around the park or room like rockets when they hear a group grumble. It is quite joyful and very funny to see.

Is your dog susceptible to the zoomies?

What causes my dog to get the zoomies? Talent Hounds.
