Can dogs eat apple?

Both of my daughters live with me at the moment. They love apples and they both love it. They each eat at most one per day.

Although we all know the saying, “An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away”, I decided to look into the benefits.

The benefits of eating apples

These are the contents of apples:

Vitamin C – Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that may block some of damage caused by free radicals as well as increase the body’s resistance to infectious agents. According to the University of Maryland Medical Centre, these vitamins are essential for the health of your body, brain, and nervous system. B-6 is essential for the body to make new red blood cells that carry oxygen throughout the body. It helps maintain a strong immune system. These phytonutrients can help protect your body from harmful free radicals. These include flavanols, procyanidins, epigall, and catechin, as well as phenolic acid (mainly chlorogenic), dihydrochalcones, phenylamines (phloretin glysides), flavonols, quercetin glusides, and anthocyanins. Kilo the Pug & Apples

Kilo the Pug loves eating almost anything, and we all share food with him. He stares at us with big, brown puppy dog eyes pretending that he hasn’t had food in weeks. He is happy to have a tiny taste, and even more so with a larger bite.

He also stole food from the dining room table, including onion quiche and chocolate brownies. Both required vet visits and, in the case with the chocolate, an injection and vomiting. We are very cautious about what human food dogs can eat.

Can Dogs Eat Apples? The answer is yes (just not the core and seeds).

My older daughter asked me last Wednesday if dogs can eat apples.

According to my research, the answer is yes. Just like humans, dogs can also benefit from the vitamins, minerals, and fiber found in apples.

Slices of apple can be used to clean dog‘s teeth, which will lead to cleaner breath.

Don’t give them the entire apple. The core and seeds should be removed as they can pose a choking hazard or be poisonous.

Can dogs eat apple pie?

You may be wondering whether dogs can eat apple pie, as it is apple pie season in Ontario. A small amount of apple pie is unlikely to cause any harm to dogs, even if they accidentally consume some. Apple pies are usually high in sugar and carbs.

Because Kilo the Pug is small and easily overweight, we try to limit his sugar intake and carbs. We like to share raw fruits, cooked or raw vegetables, grilled meats, fish, and chickens without sauces. If he wanted apple pie for a treat, I would make it.

Dog Treats Made from Home

My kids and Kilo enjoyed these adorable homemade Baked Apple Dog Treats. They are perfect for Thanksgiving and fall. If you prefer, you can reduce the maple syrup.
