Since the beginning of time, Purina ProPlan and Fromm have been dominant in the dog food market. It can be difficult to choose the right brand for your dog, given that both have been producing high-quality, sought-after products for many generations. This guide will help you make an informed decision about which brand is worthy of your long-term commitment.

Fromm is the best choice if you want the highest quality, safest dog food. Purina Pro Plan, on the other hand is more affordable and better for dog owners who are tight on budget.

The following sections will give you a comparison of the brands. This will allow you to see how their products compare. Once you have a better understanding of which brand is best for you and your dog, you can read Throughm and Purina Pro Plan to decide if they are worth the investment.

These two dog food options are available on Amazon. Click here to find Purina Pro PlanandFromm.

Comparative General

Your dog’s health and nutrition are of paramount importance to you as a dog owner. Dog food is becoming more expensive and less nutritious every day. It can be equally important to make sure your dog has enough food to last for the long-term without having to reduce its health-related costs.

This is why I am going to start this article by taking you through each brand’s nutritional value, safety, price point and customer testimonials. All of these are important to consider when selecting your pet’s new food plan.

Nutritional Value

Your dog’s daily diet is a key component of its health and longevity. The sale and manufacture of pet food is tightly controlled at the state and federal levels. You can be sure that the labels of each product will give you a good idea about the nutritional content. This is the most important factor pet owners use to decide on their preferred food.

Protein Content

Protein is the most important macronutrient for dogs. Without it, they can’t live.

When comparing Purina Pro Plan to Fromm’s nutritional labels I decided that protein content was the most important element.

Purina Pro Plan products generally have more protein than their Fromm counterparts. This difference was consistent across all their product lines, so if your goal is to increase your dog’s protein intake Purina Pro plan is the best option. The brand’s products typically contained 4-5% more protein than the competitor.

Fat Content

Although protein is an important part of a dog’s diet, it should not be overlooked that the other macronutrients are equally important. A protein-rich product doesn’t always have the best nutritional value. This is why it’s important to read the entire label before making a decision.

For example, fats are an essential macronutrient that you want to ensure your pets have enough. It’s their main source of energy.

While humans rely heavily on carbohydrates for their energy expenditure, pets rely heavily on fats. You should ensure that your dog is getting healthy fats.

It’s difficult to choose a winner when it comes to fat content between these two brands. Because percentages vary between product lines, it is difficult to say which Purina Pro plan or Fromm is better regarding fat supply.

If you purchase dry food, the Purina Pro Plan product allows you to give your dog almost 2% more fat. Ironically, however, wet food is almost the exact opposite. Wet food fromm has around 2% more fat per serving than its PurinaPro Plan counterpart.

If you want to increase your dog’s fat intake, it might be worth reading the nutritional labels of each product in order to make an informed decision.

Fiber content

Complex carbohydrates are not required by most adult dogs. They do require fiber to maintain a healthy intestinal tract. As far as this third macronutrient is concerned, the verdict is still ambiguous.

Occasionally, inconsistencies among product ranges can tip each brand’s favour. Although Fromm has an edge over all brands, there is still enough conflicting information to make it difficult to identify a clear winner.

You might also want to check the nutritional label for the product you are considering before you make a decision. It is impossible to accurately determine which brand has more dietary fiber.

Micronutrient Range

After we have discussed protein, fats and fiber, vitamins and minerals are the last nutritional value to be discussed.

Fromm is the best choice in this case. They offer a wide variety of micronutrients in their products, including but not limited to:

ZincCalciumCopperManganeseVitamin EVitamin AVitamin D3BiotinVitamin B12Folic acid

If your top priority is micronutrient intake then opting for Fromm would make the best choice.

Quality and Safety

Quality pet food products are not only measured by their content in protein, fat, or fiber. Macronutrient quality is more important than quantity, in my opinion. In the next paragraphs, I will be discussing the ingredients of these brands and the possible health risks they could pose to your pet’s health.

This is a case where the race is not as close. Fromm products generally have higher quality. They have fewer potentially dangerous ingredients and are more tightly regulated.

Purina Pro plan uses a list that may be harmful to dogs who have allergies or are suffering from pre-existing conditions. These ingredients include added colorings, corn oil, animal fat preserved in citric acid and menadione sodium sulfate complex.

Keep in mind, however, that Purina Pro Plan has been recommended by FDA as being one of the most nutritionally-rich options on the market. Therefore, as long your pet is healthy, there is no reason to be concerned.

If your pet is suffering from food allergies or other health issues, it might be worth the extra expense to get a product that is more regulated.

Conclusion: While both options are great choices for dogs already in good health, I can say with confidence that Fromm products are safer overall and more quality. Comparing their recall histories can help you understand the quality differences between these brands.

As an example, see the above. One recall of Fromm products was voluntary due to insufficient levels of vitamins or minerals. Purina Pro Plan, on the other hand has been recalled multiple times due to claims that range from salmonella risk to plastic contamination. Given their similar operating times, it is safe to say that Fromm foods are better regulated.

Price Point

You might have expected that investing in a higher-quality brand will come at a higher price. I would not say the price difference between the brands is too great. This is understandable given the similar nutritional profiles of the brands.

Fromm’s per-calorie price can range from 17% to 50% more than its counterpart, while its per-pound price is about 13% to 30% higher.

In this case, price per calorie may be the best way to distinguish between brands. Differences in volume, weight and moisture levels might sometimes prove difficult to account.

Purina Pro Plans are a good option for owners with limited budgets, particularly if their pet’s health is good.

If the cost isn’t an issue, it might be worth spending a few extra dollars, especially if your dog has food allergies or health problems.

Customer Testimonials

It doesn’t matter how many nutritional labels you compare, it won’t help you find the right brand to suit your dog. The most important measure of a product’s quality is the way its buyers perceive it.

To compare reviews and impressions on these highly-sought-after brands, I searched the internet. Reddit and Golden Retriever Forum dog owners shared their opinions unfiltered and unsponsored on these brands. There seem to be some unanimously agreed-on verdicts.

Vets love Purina because it is supported by numerous research that proves its nutritional value. Fromm, on the other hand is a family-owned company whose customers have nothing but glowing testimonials regarding the positive effects its products have had for their pets.

Customers seem to prefer Fromm when it comes to appearance-related issues (such as length and shine) and many customers suggest that switching from Purina Pro Plan and Fromm has helped the coat grow process. This is probably due to Fromm’s large micronutrient portfolio.

Purina Pro Plan is a popular choice for dog owners who are concerned about their pets’ protein intake. Its macronutrient content is comparable to brands that are more expensive. Your priorities and budget will determine which brand is best suited for your pet.

Pros and cons of Purina Pro Plan

Bag” title=”Purina PRO Plan High Protein Dog Food with Probiotics For Dogs, Shredded Chicken & Rice Formula- 35 lb. Bag”>

You might have a better idea of which company’s products are best for your pet.

But just because one brand is better than the other does not mean its products are worth your long-term investment. It is important to ensure that your purchase will have a return on investment equal or greater than the price. Before you make a decision, here are some of the pros and cons of Purina Pro Plan products.

Pros of Purina Pro Plan

Purina Pro Plan products are loved by a wide, loyal customer base. However, they also have extensive research backing up their nutritional value.

This brand is a great value for the price. Purina Pro Plan is a brand that offers a unique nutritional profile, even if it’s priced at the same level as other brands.

Purina Pro Plans are a great option for dogs that are healthy and happy. You’ll be able provide all the macronutrients your pet needs without having to spend a lot.

The Cons of the Purina Pro Plan

If budget is not an issue, you might consider safer and more cost-effective options to help your dog live a longer life.

Purina Pro Plan products can contain potentially harmful ingredients, such as colorings and animal fat preserved with acid. They are not recommended for pets.

Important to remember that recalls of products by the brand have occurred several times over their long history, due to quality control issues.

Finally, Purina Pro Plan still sells many grain-based products, despite being one of the most protein-rich on the market. PetMD says that dogs should consume a greater percentage of meat-based foods, but it is best to limit their intake of grains.

Fromm’s Cons and Pros

class=”size-large aligncenter” src=”https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41Fw42YHPHL._SL500_.jpg” alt=”Fromm Gold Nutritionals Adult Dry Dog Food, 30 lb” title=”Fromm Gold Nutritionals Adult Dry Dog Food, 30 lb”>

For centuries, Fromm’s products are in the pet food market. The brand has enjoyed a loyal customer base throughout its long history. Is there any reason Fromm hasn’t achieved the commercial success of its competitors? Is its quality worth the price?

Fromm’s Professionals

Fromm, a family-owned business, has been in operation for five generations. The company’s products have been recalled only once, and that was voluntarily, over its long history. This is due to a benign concern about vitamin and mineral readings.

They are high quality, nutritionally rich, and strictly regulated. This is why their products are always highly reviewed in online shops or forums. They are free of allergens and toxin, and their products have been praised by customers for their positive effect on the coat length and health of their pets.

Despite not having the same success as other breeders due to their family-based background, the quality of their products is more important than the price. If you are willing to spend a little more to feed your pet a high-quality, nutritious diet, I recommend Fromm.

Fromm’s Cons

However, Fromm was recalled once again. This is something to keep in mind when selecting a pet food brand. Although the recall was based upon a claim about vitamin and mineral readings inconsistentities, it casts doubt on whether the nutritional labels on these products are always accurate.

Some of their products may not be completely grain-free. This could make it difficult for your dog depending on his health.

Last Thoughts

Both Purina Pro Plan & Fromm are excellent brands that have a long history of happy customers. The best choice for you and the pet depends on your priorities and budget.

If you have a pet that is healthy and on a tight budget, Purina Pro Plan can be a great (and well-researched) option. If safety and diet quality are important to you, I recommend investing in Fromm’s more-regulated products.
