Spooky season is upon us, and there are plenty of scary things to be aware of. Do you know what scarier I find than ghosts or goblins, though?
It’s a untrained dog to me.
Why?
Untrained dogs are unpredictable
They can’t be removed if they become too excited, jumpy, or lash at strangers.
This is frightening because the owner has no control over their dog’s behavior. Dogs often fall back to old bad habits when they are left alone.
This is what you should think about…
Even if your dog doesn’t exhibit any bad social behaviors (jumping or barking, nipping), what happens if they chase a squirrel and don’t obey your commands to return? Terrifying, right? That would make my heart stop!
Most pet owners have good intentions, I’m sure.
They learn the basics of “sit,” ‘lay down, and “stay”.
These are great lessons to teach your dog!
They stop, then.
These commands are not enough to make your dog a trained professional.
Training is about being able to get your dog to behave in a certain way.
This means that you can trust your dog regardless of the situation.
…and that even when they begin to misbehave, you can easily redirect them and get them obeying you.
Training can also strengthen the bond between parent and puppy, believe it or not!

Untrained dogs can be afflicted by these dangers
It is dangerous to let a dog run the house. You are teaching your dog that he is responsible for everything.
This can lead to some very serious consequences.
Dogs who believe they are the leader will act out when strangers or guests enter your home.
You might see your dog acting aggressively, or you may just be feeling excited, which can sometimes be mistaken for aggression. These miscommunications can cause problems in your relationship with your dog. And the cycle will continue.
Untrained dogs can be uncomfortable with strangers and develop bad habits like possessiveness over food or toys.
Multi-dog households can lead to fights or even a resentful family member. This can create an unsafe environment for you and your pets.
Dogs can learn to train and gain confidence.
Dogs that are not trained well can have separation anxiety. They may become aggressive or fearful towards cars passing by the house.
It is important to build a trusting and mutually understanding relationship with your dog.
Proper training is the key to all of this
Why Training Establishes a Boo-tiful Bond
It’s not always easy to train. It takes perseverance, patience, and a lot of time.
It is so important to spend time together.
Because it allows you to learn more about each other.
Dogs can be very smart and pick up on their owners’ moods and mannerisms.
Even their owners can be inspired by them.
Working together on training strategies will help you communicate better and build a stronger relationship.
That’s why well-trained dogs are so well-behaved…because the security and strong connection they feel helps them relax and follow your lead.
This results in a calmer, more confident dog.
Do you want a dog with better recall and less separation anxiety? Are you willing to give up aggressive or perceived aggressive behaviours to a dog who is more calm and reliable?
